Synod Orientation and Transition Video

If you are making a presentation at presbytery or groups, please read the instructions and/or download them along with video.

If you cannot save video to your computer and burn a CD for display on someone else's computer... please ask Valerie Knox to mail a copy of a CD to you. (vknox @ synodsun.com)

Guidelines for Making Presentations
 to Presbyteries or Groups

For use with the April 2008 video – please do not show this video after Oct. 2008.

Before the Presentation

·   Consult a schedule of presbytery meetings. 

·   Contact the executive/general presbyter and/or stated clerk to learn how to get on the agenda of its stated meetings.

·   Know that this can be a lengthy process so allow a couple of months lead time.

·   Ask permission to show a 6 min. video. It is critically important that you honor that time limit. Ask to whom you can give the computer CD to for playing at the meeting.

·   Prepare your presentation. Write introduction and thank you (see below).

·   Practice playing the video on your computer (even if you are giving the CD so someone else). You should be able to double click when the video starts to make it full screen.

·   Watch the video at least twice and take a few notes about the transition and include the mission statement… TO USE IN CASE OF TECHNICAL FAILURE.

·   Make sure you have directions to your destination.

The Presentation

·   Address the moderator, commissioners and members of presbytery and friends.

·   Introduce yourself and your role with Synod of the Sun (commissioners note that you were elected by this presbytery to represent them). 

·   Simply say this is a six minute video that shows the missional transition taking place in the synod this year (2008). Synod is becoming even more flexible in supporting presbyteries and serving the larger church.

·    After video, simply thank them for their time and if they have questions to ask you after plenary. (This is to honor the time limit, but if moderator allows questions – answer to the best of your ability).

Following the Presentation 

·   Send a thank you note (at least an e-mail) to the moderator of presbytery with a copy going to the executive/general presbyter and clerk. 

·   E-mail a short summary of your experience to fletcher@synodsun.com and moderator@synodsun.com.  This will let us know when and where you visited.
